Automobile Guarantee Fund

The FGA’s mission is to compensate for damage caused on Luxembourg territory by

• an uninsured vehicle
• an unidentified vehicle (hit-and-run)

In addition, the FGA’s mission is to:

• intervene if, within a period of 3 months from the date of submitting a claim for compensation with the insurance undertaking, the latter has not produced a reasoned response to the elements mentioned by the injured party. In this case, the injured party has the right to claim compensation from the FGA in its capacity as compensation body.
• compensate an injured party resident in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg who is the victim of an accident abroad if:
  • the foreign insurance undertaking insuring the vehicle involved has not designated a representative in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg,
  • the foreign insurance undertaking insuring the vehicle involved, or its representative, has not taken a position within a period of 3 months on the claim for compensation submitted to them by the injured party,
  • the vehicle which caused the accident outside the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is either not insured or not identified.
